We use as few cookies of our own as possible. Google sets advertising cookies to show the ads that keep GeneratePoem free, and any analytics tools we switch on set their own.
Cookies we set
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
gp_guest |
A random ID so your poems show under "My poems" without an account, and so daily limits work. Our own analytics also uses it to tell visits apart. | 1 year |
gp_claimed |
Remembers that your guest poems were moved into your account after you signed in. | 1 year |
| Sign-in session cookies | Keep you signed in. | Until you sign out or the session ends |
gp_admin |
Keeps GeneratePoem staff signed in to the admin area. Only set for staff. | 12 hours |
The site needs these cookies to work.
Storage in your browser
gp_theme(local storage): remembers whether you chose light or dark mode.gp_sid(local storage): a session ID for our own analytics. A new one starts after 30 minutes without activity.gp_draft_...(session storage): keeps a chat message you typed if you had to sign in before sending it.
Our own analytics
Our analytics script uses gp_guest and gp_sid to group page views, scroll depth, page speed, errors and actions such as copying or sharing a poem into visits. The data stays in our own database and is deleted after 400 days. It never includes the text of your poems, your topics or your email. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is recorded. Details are in our privacy policy.

We may switch on the tools below. Each sets cookies only while it is switched on.

Third-party cookies: Google AdSense
Ads on GeneratePoem are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners set cookies (such as __gads, __gpi, IDE and NID) to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure results and prevent fraud. Some of these can show ads based on your earlier visits to this and other sites.
- In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, a consent message asks before any advertising cookies are set. You can change your choice later from the privacy link it leaves on the page.
- Anywhere, you can turn off personalised ads in Google's Ads Settings.
- How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Managing cookies
You can delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Deleting gp_guest means guest poems on that browser no longer appear in "My poems". Blocking third-party cookies in your browser stops most of the analytics and advertising cookies above.
